If you're new to shampoo bars, here are some important points to keep in mind to avoid any surprises!
- First, you may find that they don’t lather as much as traditional liquid shampoos. While a rich, foamy lather isn’t essential for effective cleansing, it might feel unusual if you’re used to liquid shampoos. You might be tempted to use more of the bar to compensate for the lighter lather. We suggest rubbing the shampoo bar between wet hands to create a gentle lather before applying it to your hair. Alternatively, you can directly rub the bar onto your hair. Just be careful not to apply too much product at once, as this could make rinsing more challenging and lead to quicker depletion of the bar, which is something you’ll want to avoid!
- Secondly, remember that our shampoo bars are naturally scented with essential oils, so their fragrance will not be as strong as that of liquid shampoos containing synthetic fragrances. While our shampoo bars might not leave a powerful scent on your hair after washing, they will ensure your hair feels soft, healthy, and well-conditioned! They have a light, subtle aroma that is delightfully mild.
- Thirdly, if you are transitioning from commercial shampoos to natural shampoo bars, you might experience an unfamiliar feeling of heaviness on your hair during the first few uses, but this is completely normal. Alternatively, you can use an after-rinse solution, like the apple cider after rinse we offer.
- Some users may experience dandruff and dryness during initial use, and a transition period of 2-3 weeks may be needed when switching from commercial shampoo to a shampoo bar.
Finally, when you're not using your shampoo bar, make sure to store it in a dry place that’s not too humid. Like natural soaps, shampoo bars don’t do well in wet or humid environments, which can cause them to become soft and mushy!
